A stressful time of year has arrived again: what do we give our children for Sinterklaas and Christmas? Developmental psychologist Steven Pont gives tips and advice on responsible toys that help your child develop as much as possible.
Are you planning to buy your child a tablet for Christmas or Sinterklaas (the Dutch St Nicholas celebration)? According to developmental psychologist Steven Pont, you had better not. The devices are said to be bad for the eyes and to encourage obesity. “And they make children clumsy.”
He said this on the Dutch TV programme RTL Late Night. “Those iPads replace playing together, so children’s development lags behind, and that is something you can’t simply catch up on later in life.”
He also explains which toys, in his view, do make a positive contribution to your child’s development.
